Our Story

How it all started...

Dr Edward M Buford Sr. sat as the Assistant Pastor at Greater New Grove beside Pastor Elvin Stewart when he heard the call to began a church. With a vision in hand Edward & Bobbi Buford's family, Archie Roberts,  and his parents  starting up a youth targeted church in East Aldine Area.The only people that seat in the church were Dr Buford and his family, Assistant Pastor Archie R. Roberts III, Deacon Frank and Euince Roberts service began with a microphone and  a speaker.

  VBS, carnivals, sidewalk sunday school, and passing out fliers was the highlights of SCH calendar. Ministering to one of the most notorious crime operating apartments in Northeast Houston Haversack Hill Apartments. Multiple event coming against Gods Vision for the community Dr. Buford with words of our first Church Mother "DONT QUIT" in his mind. God keep SCH growing as long as we are faithful to His vision and never quit. 

Expanding the vision...

Since then God has blessed SonRise Church to always have a cause no matter the season. Moving us to the build we have now that is one of the largest family shelters in  Harris County. Serving the community when disaster strikes being a Relief Hub for East Aldine District lending a hand flood, tornado, hurricane, city wide outages, and pandemics. God is allowing SonRise to be a representative of The Kingdom in many ways exposing His Love many places.

Where we are headed...

Where ever God leads use is what we believe and function on the guidance of The Holy Spirit. We answer the need that God assigns to us that is what we are equipped to deal with. Its being in tune with His Will that has kept SonRise effective for over 25 years.

Allowed us to see multiply lives changed and still now today hearts transforming through the work of Jesus Christ with this ministry. The next soul is where we are headed with the resources He provides with The Message that we know changes lives. JESUS SAVES!
